Stock, sprint and supermodified driver killed in a stock car crash at Reading Fairgrounds. Hubbard began his racing career aged just fifteen back in 1957, driving late model stock cars. By 1971, he had moved up to USAC Sprint Car events and one year later, graduated to Champ Car. Hubbard served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, making over 100 jumps in over three years service. Restarting his career again in 1965, in supermodified cars, he then became a top ARDC midget driver. Hubbard had only returned to stockcars again in 1975 after his unsuccessful Indy 500 stint, but his day time job was that of a steelworker at Bethlehem Steel in his hometown of Johnstown.
