Wrote a column for Car and Driver Magazine for 41 years before leaving in 2009 and was regarded as one of the top automotive journalists around. Now retired and likes to restore cars. Although his writing career is what he is most revered for, Bedard was a capable driver who won in both sportscars and stock cars. Patrick survived a massive crash at the Indianapolis 500 in 1984, when his car flipped over on numerous occasions. However it was enough to prompt him to stop a racing career which spanned over fifteen years. Patrick also competed in Super Vee and various USAC events during his racing career.
