Mike worked in the IT software business in California, where he lived for decades, producing software for a mortgage loan processing company he founded. He overcame a long battle with cancer and other health problems stemming from that fight and then subsequently spent a lot of time helping cancer and Christian charities. In his younger days, Hiss also did water-skiing, as well as gliding and motorcycling. Started racing in 1965 and enjoyed a varied career, including Formula 5000, sportscars, Formula A and Formula B, as well as USAC events. Was married briefly to Arlene, who also raced and made one Indycar start herself; his second marriage, to Connie, lasted 42 years. Sadly Mike died just before Christmas 2018 after complications of a reoccurence of the original lymphona he fought so valiantly against. Mike also worked with Detroit Diesel Allison and was also a qualified pilot, flying both Cessna and Learjet planes.
