Got his chance in single-seaters by the way of a CSAI scholarship, but never really achieved much in both Italian Formula 3 or International Formula 3000. He did, however, have a bit more success in Italian Formula Ford. Later went, briefly, in sportscars, and also raced in the Italian Touring Car Championship in 1989, as well as the Peugeot 905 Spider Cup in 1992. Later worked as a pilot and businessman, working in real estate. Debenedetti quit racing to get an economics degree. Died in 2016 after a long battle against cancer, aged only 52, near his home at Castellar Guidobono.
