Best known as a World Champion motorcyclist, his four wheel career was not as successful. Works as a motorbike racing instructor and is now a broadcaster, commentator and even sings! Lucchinelli started racing motorcycles on roads in 1975 and he did enough to join Yamaha in the 350cc World Championship that year. He switched to Suzuki in 1976 in the 500cc Championship, where he would remain for another six seasons. He gained a reputation as a fast, daring, but somewhat crash-prone rider. However in 1981, he excelled and was consistent enough to take the 500cc World Championship. For various reasons, he never won again and quit racing in 1985 for his brief car career. He returned to bikes as Ducati team manager before being jailed for drug possession.
