Now lives on the Swiss-Italian border. Andrea does PR for a kart team, runs a car dealership and is a driver instructor for BMW in Italy. He also spends time working for the local sporting assocation as a committee member. He raced for some while in Ferrari Challenges across Europe, but is now retired from racing. Gilardi was brilliant in karts and routinely beat the likes of Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen and Gianni Morbidelli. However an injury in a car accident in 1985 and a lack of a suitable budget meant Gilardi's career never progressed further than it should've done based on talent. His father's death in 1991 was another blow, but in 1992, he won, based on his driving, a chance to race in Formula 3000 via the Marlboro-Alfa Romeo challenge. Andrea now also enjoys mountain biking.
