Ruggero Melgrati

05 Sep 1961 |
Nationality: |
Italy |
F3000 starts: | 0 (1988) |
Ruggero was retired, after racing GT cars up until 1999. However in 2014, he made a surprise return to racing, in the Sebring 12 Hours, which he has followed up with other drives, including in the NASCAR Whelen Series. In 2016, he appeared in karting, his first racing love, as both a driver and a coach. Melgrati also runs an interior design furniture company. Melgrati was particulary good at karting, beating the likes of Capelli, Raphanel and even Ayrton Senna, in the 1981 World Karting Championship, but had a long career in sportscars and GT racing in the US, which he is better known for, rather than his F3000 one-off, which, disrupted by fog, and with no testing, never really got going. Ruggero did an interview in 2014 for this site, which can be found at the link below.
