After Formula 1, Thierry raced in sportscars, mostly, until a heavy crash at the 1999 Le Mans. led to an injury which meant immediate retirement. Now re-married, he runs his own aviation business from his Monaco base. He also ran a motorsport team in lower formulae single-seaters, and although he is not directly involved now, there is still a motorsport outfit in his name. Boutsen was never the most spectacular or fashionable driver, but he was extremely good, with three wins in Formula 1, all of them coming whilst not in the best car at the time, but also wins in FIA GT and World Sportscars, a win at Daytona in 1985 and six wins in Formula 2.
