Was an automotive engineer for many years, either with de Tomaso, for whom he also acted as a test driver and then later engineered their sportscars, but also as an independent consultant. He often based himself in Tuscany. Bussinello started switching to racing in 1958 and did well in Formula Junior before joining de Tomaso. In 1963, Businello became a chief engineer for Alfa Romeo but still raced, competing in sportscars and the European Touring Car Championship. Bussinello even raced in Australia, winning a touring car race at Sandown Park in 1964. Roberto then wound his racing programme after 1968, but remained a motorsport engineer for years and notably worked with Herbert Muller.
