His son later raced briefly as well. Was a businessman based in Ulster, who ran a number of businesses to fund his racing efforts. He also liked playing tennis in his spare time. Died after a short illness. L'Amie was probably best remembered as a sportscar driver, although he did also compete in rallying. L'Amie was a regular in a Porsche 910 in sportscar races in both Ireland and abroad, although he also competed in a Crossle car alongside Brian Nelson and Tommy Reid. He took numerous class wins. John was a textile merchant and his family had been involved in that industry since moving from France centuries before.
