A sports car builder and 500cc constructor, he built and raced cars under the Emeryson banner. Took over the family firm from his father, George (who was actually born Georges Rene, a Frenchman who was serving in the British Royal Flying Corps during World War 1), who built cars back in the 1930's - so Paul was the son in Emeryson. Bought out by Hugh Powell, he stayed with Powell and designed the Scirocco car. He then became an engine tuner, before developing Hillman Imps for racing. Son Peter carried on the car building tradition at Emeryson, when he built FJ racing cars. Died after complications of dementia and pneumonia.
