Now lives in the US, in New Mexico, where he is involved in the design and engineering of sports cars, albeit this is his sideline. His main work is involved in the commercial nuclear industry as a designer and modeller. For a long time, he was a car designer in CART and also worked in real estate. Also currently involved in racing car chassis development and is still in charge of his design business, Galmer, which he founded in 1988. He also works as a mechanical designer at Enercon, which he took up in 2013. Alan started as an apprentice at British Aerospace and whilst doing this, raced himself in Formula Ford for some years. Joined the sport in 1976 with March.
