Killed in the same air crash that claimed the lives of Graham Hill, Tony Brise and three other team members. An extremely promising designer, he was, like Brise, expected to achieve greater things, but unlike Brise and his boss, Smallman is largely forgotten now. Smallman worked at Lola before designing both of Hill's Grand Prix cars, the GH1 and the un-raced GH2. Considering Smallman was only twenty-five at his death, he surely would've gone on to more success in the sport.
