Was with Renault as engineering director, but for his role in the Singapore Grand Prix race-fixing scandal, he was banned from the sport for five years. After part of his ban was relaxed, he joined Marussia as a consultant, but in 2013, once his ban was over, he joined Williams as chief technical engineer, where he remained until 2016. Then worked as Formula 1's Chief Technical Officer in a complete turn-around of fortunes until the end of 2024, when he joined the Andretti team in a technical consultant role. Also currently writing technical articles for F1 Racing magazine as well as a French magazine, and runs his own successful engineering consultancy firm. Symonds, who has a degree in aerodynamics, started his Formula 1 career with Toleman, before it morphed into Benetton. He initially worked as a race engineer for Sandro Nannini and Teo Fabi before becoming more involved in the design department in the early 1990's.
