Took over as acting team principal for Williams in 2020 after both Sir Frank Williams and his daughter Clare left the team and then was named on a permanent basis a few months later. Roberts qualified with a mechanical engineering degree before joining the engine firm Perkins in Simon's home town of Peterborough. He became head of manufacturing engineering before becoming involved in Rover's powertrain division. Further roles followed at BMW and Alstom UK before he joined McLaren in 2003 as general manager and operations director. He stayed in that tole, alongside a three year spell as chief operating officer until joining Williams in early 2020. He left his role as team principal one year later. He is now chief operating officer at BAR Technologies, which is a marine engineering consultancy.
