A graduate of the International School of Geneva, James holds degrees in computer science and motorsport engineering. He became an engineer at BAR, staying with the outfit as they morphed into Honda, then Brawn, then Mercedes. He was the race strategist for Brawn in their stunning championship success, before becoming the chief strategist for Mercedes as they went on to win many World Championships. In 2023, he was announced as the new Williams team principal.
