A quietly-spoken, humble, but a good-natured and generous man, Oatley prefers to shun personal limelight to enjoy the collective success of his team. Neil has been with McLaren since 1987 and is currently their design and development manager, overlooking his team of engineers. Neil enjoys historic racing as well, and especially riding motorbikes, but still manages to keep a relatively low profile - which bearing in mind he designed four championship-winning F1 cars - is some achievement. Neil also worked as a race engineer and draughtsman for Williams.
