Raced in his own cars which he built with Fred Wilkinson, the JBW specials. He built and raced single-seaters and sportscars, but he was most successful in Libre racing and especially so at Oulton Park, where he became a real specialist. Retired from racing in 1962 after suffering illness, and went to live in Marbella, Spain, where he ran a cafe. He died after an accident, but had sadly suffered some ill-health before his death.
