A businessman, first and foremost, he died in his native Montevideo. Also known as Bocha or Bochita, Oscar competed in both his home country and Argentina in the 1950's and 1960's. Primarily, however, he was a touring car driver for many years in Argentina. After his death in 2006, the Gran Premio de Pinapolis was renamed to Gran Premio Oscar Mario Gonzalez. Having the funds to race from his business, he was encouraged to race by his namesake, Jose Froilan, a good friend of his. Oscar did also race in single-seaters, competing in Uruguayan Formula 3.
