After leaving Jaguar in 2004, Pitchforth went to a technical directoral position with Augusta-Westland helicopters, before joining Boeing UK Rotorcraft as a director. This developed to him then becoming Boeing Defence UK's managing director, but he was also involved in a number of other businesses with the Boeing umbrella until he stepped down and left Boeing in 2019. Before his motorsport spell, David worked in the automotive and logistic businesses in an engineering capacity. In 2019, he took early retirement but works as a consultant.
