Initially trained in finance, but joined Ferrari in 1991 and then rose up the ranks to become both team principal and then, in 2011, Ferrari's technical director. Left in 2014 after a few rather underwhelming years and became head of the Volkswagen Audi Group's feasibility study to see if they can enter Formula 1 in the near future. In 2015, he became the new CEO of Lamborghini. He was also President of the FIA Single-Seater Commission, replacing former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger and one of his key roles was overseeing the new version of the Formula 2 series. In 2020, he became the new CEO of Formula 1.
