Heir to a metalworks, Rumi started as a sponsor to Osella before moving into other parts of the sport. He died after a long fight with cancer. Rumi started in the sport as a racer, competing in hillclimbs and then the single-seater series called Formula Monza in the 1960's. He stopped this to concentrate on his iron foundry business, developing it to include Fondmetal in the 1970's, building alloy engine parts and wheels. When Rumi sponsored Piercarlo Ghinzani at Osella, he was also supplying Ligier, Williams, Osella, Tyrrell and Zakspeed with alloy racing wheels. Although he ran the Fondmetal team himself after buying out Osella, his longest spell was with Minardi, only stopping in 2000, when he sold his shares to Paul Stoddart.
