More recently, he worked on the Midland F1 project, a return to F1 after 13 years, and was also involved, briefly, in the Hispania F1 project in 2010. After gaining a degree in aeronautical engineering, Gian Paolo joined Ferrari in 1959, before joining Lamborghini, where he designed the Lamborghini Miura sports road car. He was also involved in the design of the Maserati Tipo 151 in 1962. After a spell in Formula 1 with Williams and de Tomaso, Gian Paolo started his own business and has achieved great success since then. In 2013, in honour of his achievements and his dedication to motorsport, he was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
