Went off to CART after Formula 1, becoming a technical consultant. Now back in the UK, largely retired, although he remains on hand as a consultant if required, and is based in West Sussex. Gordon was a draughtsman at the National Gas Turbine Establishment, with trail bike racing being his only motorsport foray before joining friend and former colleague Robin Herd at McLaren, where he spent most of his career and had the greatest success. Designed Formula 1, Can-Am, Indianapolis and Formula 2 cars there and stayed close to all these series for the rest of his career, before retiring in 2000.
