Committed suicide after being told he was terminally ill. Worked in the motorsport industry for ages, he was running a cattle ranch in Argentina when he died. Also had interests in real estate and the oil business. Sharp's role with Chaparral seems somewhat forgotten now and whilst Jim Hall was the driving force behind the marque, Sharp was no silent partner, inputting a lot from the driver's viewpoint. Originally trained as a oil-well drilling contractor, this saw him move to Texas to focus on that profession. This is where he met Hall and soon took up racing thereafter, mainly in sportscars. He won the Sebring 12 Hours in 1965 with Hall, but also won a number of sportscar races by himself. Sharp also had a car dealership for a while and raced in powerboats; he won the US National Outboard Racing Championship.
