Killed in a sportscar crash in New Zealand, just weeks into the new season. One of the most versatile and under-rated drivers of the 1950's, Ken was a four times British hillclimb champion, but also won in sports and touring cars, rallies and single-seaters. Wharton had a long career, starting in the sport as a teenager in 1935. His best performance at Grand Prix level was probably the Swiss Grand Prix in 1952, where he finished fourth.
