Was adopted as a child. Ran a banana farm and restaurant in South Africa, but moved after son Gary was shot dead there. Ted's brother Bob was killed in a racing accident in the 1970's. Ted remained linked to the sport as an advisor and also ran for a while, Australia's Mini Challenge Series. He also kept links with powerboating and yachting, as well as business interests in Australia and the Philippines, where he died after some years of ill health. Originally he was a car transporter businessman in Essex, although he also ran a number of businesses including lines in hosiery and patrol boats. Real name was Norman. Often listed as being born in South Africa, but he was born in Manchester.
