Quit Formula 1 in 1977 to tend the family farm, where he continued to live for the rest of his life, working there for many years. He also developed suspensions for a while for Toyota, and kept links to both agriculture and racing, including visiting historic events. He also contributed and was a consultant to a few motor racing projects in his homeland, including television programmes. Chris is remembered with great affection by those who saw him race, and although he never won a World Championship Grand Prix, he was a multiple winner in F1, but also won the 1966 Le Mans, 1967 Daytona 24 Hours, the 1969 Tasman Series and won a round of the European Touring Car Championship in 1973 so his talent, at least, brought success in his overall career. He retired from Formula 1 after seeing Niki Lauda's fiery crash at the Nurburgring in 1976, bringing back too many memories of previous friends and racers burnt. Sadly, Chris died in 2016 after suffering from cancer.
