Went racing in stock car events in the UK for a while, but is now retired. However, he does still make a few rare returns to the sport through historic festivals, including the 2009 Silverstone Classic. Coyne was an immensely talented driver who didn't have the funds to progress any further than a one-off Formula 3000 attempt or occasional Formula 3 appearances, but he won the 1987 EFDA Euroseries Formula 3 title and was a regular winner in Formula Ford 1600 and latterly in British Formula 3000, before ending his competitive career in the mid-1990's. Coyne now runs a number of car dealerships in Hampshire, something which which he undertook whilst racing. Coyne came close to making an unlikely Formula 1 bow in the mid-1990's, when he had a couple of seat fittings with the Pacific F1 team.
