Davies, who came from a farming background, had the highlight of his career when he won the Formula Ford 2000 Championship in 1983, which even earnt him a surprise third in the BBC Welsh Sports Personality of the Year Award that year, but then his career stalled somewhat due to a lack of funding and although he did reasonably in British Formula 3, he left the sport at the end of 1987. Tim built a Ford Lotus Cortina for the Historic Touring Car Championship in 2010, where he won the championship with the HSCC in 2014 and 2015. For a long time, Davies ran a petrol station and garage dealership in Lampeter, Mid-Wales but has now sold it. He is now retired but with the intent of privately restoring classic cars. At present, Davies is restoring an early Ford Escort Twin Cam and is a member of the AVO Club and continues to compete in historic racing.
