Son of Danny, who has been based in California since 1962, whilst still a baby, when his father moved to further his career. Ongais himself was particularly impressive at US Formula Ford level, winning the 1987 National title in the 2nd day of the SCCA's Championship run-off event at Road Atlanta. Brian raced against another son of a famous racing dad, Jim Gurney. Ongais moved up to the ARS in 1988 with his father's team, but he stopped at the end of the year. Now lives in Carlsbad after previously being based at Long Beach.
