Currently racing in the various NASCAR Series (Sprint and Xfinity) and also in US endurance, a combination he continues in 2024. He took his first win in 2021's Daytona 500. A BMX racer as a boy, he moved to karts, but his career really progressed by winning the 2004 Star Mazda Series. McDowell only briefly competed in open wheel racing after that and forged a career in Grand-Am, ARCA and from 2007 onwards, NASCAR - initially racing trucks, before moving into the Sprint Cup series.
