Later worked for Peugeot, with whom he won the 1913 race, and also Bugatti, as an engineer. Moved to Mirmande in 1954, to retire and tend his garden, which he greatly enjoyed. His widow became a centenarian in the early 2000's. Goux won both before and after the war but he was lucky to survive World War 1 when he was wounded at Belfort when serving for the French Artillery. Goux's father was a manager at Peugeot's bicycle plant and Jules joined the company as a draughtsman in 1903 after initially training as an engineer. He then became a test driver for Peugeot before going on to have an immensely successful career which as well as the Indianapolis 500, included winning the 1921 Italian Grand Prix and the 1926 French and European Grand Prix's.
