Although French, Nelson raced in Italy, Argentina and the USA, never actually competing in his homeland. Philippe was in and out of the Champ Car World Series for a while. Appeared in a few events after finishing in that series, including Grand-Am, but is now retired after injuries sustained in a crash with Will Power led to him losing the enjoyment of racing. Nelson is currently president at Group 81, the US distributor of the family run LRG products business, but he also runs a health and fitness business.
