Often erronously being reported as have died of his serious injuries sustained in a 1961 crash, Fritz lived on for another 59 years. Until the onset of terminal cancer, he kept up his links with motorsport through historic meetings or the occasional TV work. Worked in his father's construction and garage businesses until D'Orey Sr's death. D'Orey was of direct Portuguese and German ancestry who grew up with a garage full of Packard cars from America as his father was the main importer in Brazil at the time for the make. This fired his interest in the sport and as well as single-seaters, Fritz also raced in hillclimbs, sportscars and Formula Junior before his career ended with that crash in 1961.
