Descended from Lebanese ancestry, Nasr is the first driver in some years to have Arab ancestry in Formula 1. His grandfather moved to Brazil in the 1960's and set up a few businesses, which allowed Felipe's father to help his son's progress from karting, up to Formula BMW, in which he raced in a variety of series in that particular discipline. Won the British Formula 3 title in 2011, and did well in GP2 and especially in F1 free practice to earn a Sauber drive in 2015, which he retained in 2016. He lost his seat in 2017 rather harshly and has moved into the IMSA US Sportscar Series in 2018 to restart his career. He remained in the series in 2024, the year he won the Daytona 24 Hour race. Still in the series in 2025.
