Motorcyclist who later progressed to four wheels. Decent in sportscars, he retired from F1 in 1960 as he felt that part of the sport was now too dangerous and with a young family in tow, turned to car preparation and also contested hillclimbs and rallies. His one Grand Prix, in Argentina, saw him have to retire early after suffering from both fumes and sunstroke for which he subsequently had to have hospital treatment for.
