Son of Thane, he later became an USAC official. Originally a painter and decorator, whose career was blighted by crashes. Houser struggled somewhat, especially in his early racing days, to establish himself in his own right; newspaper reports of the time mention his father in a far more sympathetic light than Norm. Thane built, with Norm, the car he entered in 1947, an ex-Joe Langley car. Norm picked up the mechanical bug as a small child, but didn't start racing himself until 1938.
