Obscure entrant, who was killed, when the plane he was flying near his home, exploded and crashed. Droeger was a trained carpenter who lived his whole life in Greenfield. Although his father, Cornelius (better known as Carl) was also Greenfield-born, Bob's grandparents both came from Germany. Bob's father was in the construction industry, inspiring Bob to take up his own particular trade, working for his father's business. Droeger's tragic death came when en route to Evansville where he was to work on an acoustical installation in the switchroom of the Southern Indiana Gas & Power Company, still contracted by the C. C. Droeger Company, his dad's firm. After his death, the local Civil Air Patrol Headquarters was named after Droeger, as he was a keen member of the local CAP.
