Killed in the only Indycar Daytona race when a gust of wind blew his car off course and out of control. Mostly based in California, he was best known for his midget success, but also won three Champ Car races on dirt ovals. The elder brother of Bill, who raced in NASCAR, George started racing just after the Second World War. Amick was a small man stature-wise, standing only five foot and five inches tall.
