Had more success in NASCAR, winning 17 races from 1949 until 1965, and was easily one of the first stars of the discipline. He was a businessman who ran a large timber merchants but also had real estate interests. Curtis started taking up the sport after World War Two and enjoyed his success immensely, although he often threw parties whether he won or lost. Turner attempted to build a new superspeedway in Charlotte, but spiralling costs saw him leave the project, having lost a lot of his fortune. Turner retired from racing in 1968 to become a professional golfer, but was killed in an aircraft accident along with fellow golfer Clarence King in 1970.
