His father was an engineer and George followed in his footsteps. Later became manager of Thompson Raceway, which was the first purpose built road-race course in the US and was a huge influence in promoting early road racing. The raceway, based in Connecticut, was promoted by Weaver, who held the first SCCA competition license issued and did a lot for the track until the late 1960's. He had a long sportscar career, for which he is better known as a racer; racing from sportscars from 1948 until the early 1960's, Weaver was often seen in a range of British and Italian sportscars. He drove a Maserati V8RI for many years, but was also seen in a Jaguar C-Type, Allard J2, Bugatti T43 and a Maserati 4CLT. George was a regular winner at both Thompson and at Watkins Glen.
