Killed in a crash at Williams Grove, dying very shortly after of his injuries, on the very same day as two other Indianapolis 500 drivers; Cecil Green and Bill Mackey. A long-time resident of Massapequa, in New York state, Walt raced in sprint cars for most of his career, being particulary strong on dirt-tracks. Initially worked as a bank teller. Brown started racing in the mid 1930's, before moving up to big cars in 1941.
