Killed in an AAA race. Webb was a big car and midget specialist, a veteran of 6 years racing. He was also the driving double, especially as Lou was a tall man, for legendary actor James Stewart in the 1936 film Speed. Born Louis Edward Webb in Knoxville, he and his brother Jack worked as mechanics in Glendale, California. Webb got interested in the sport when he visited the nearby Ascot Legion Speedway and then hooked up as a riding mechanic for drivers there. Webb then progressed to driving himself before his death a few days shy of his 29th birthday.
