Later worked for a fuel corporation and was a mechanic for Harry Miller's firm. Frank was also a mechanic for Barney Oldfield. He died, after a long battle with ill-health in 1959. Frank was a very capable gridiron footballer in his youth who began working for Miller just before World War 1 started. He began racing as a relief driver and riding mechanic for Billy Chandler and impressed greatly, winning at Uniontown in 1917 before going off to France to fight in World War One. But it was on board tracks that he was best, and took a number of notable wins between 1922 and 1925.
