Mostly in speed and road events and later worked for Chevrolet. Ormsby quit racing after the 1912 Indianapolis 500, feeling, in an interview to the San Antonio Express in 1972, that someone had sabotaged his engine to stop him winning and felt the pain and injuries (he was burnt when the engine caught fire) wasn't worth it. Ormsby remained in good health for many years and was still flying multi-engined Cessna aircraft well into his eighties. Ormsby was a self-taught mechanic who joined the Simplex Automobile Company as an apprentice car mechanic, but he also performed tyre tests. When he started putting together strong times, Ormsby started racing with his own built cars, before Simplex helped him along. Len moved to San Antonio shortly after that to open his own Chevrolet dealership and despite his youth when stopping, never changed his mind about returing to racing, but followed the sport for the rest of his life and kept in touch with those colleagues lucky enough to make it to old age like himself.
