Real name Russell. Son of William, the founder of General Motors and who also ran Chevrolet, Cliff supported his father's projects, but moved to California to marry Adelaide Frost, who was a singing star. She later married Eddie Rickenbacher, whilst Cliff married another three times. Durant actually got into racing as a way of promoting his Chevrolet dealership on the West Coast. During his career, Durant - who was a big fan of aeroplanes - also established Durant Airfield and formed the Durant Aircraft Corporation with Rickenbacher as vice-president, and he also ran the Beverley Hills board-track between 1920 and 1924. Durant raced until 1928 and was well known as a car entrant as well. Durant was also an excellent yachtsman, and sailed around the World in his Aurora yacht. Cliff suffered ill-health for a while, before passing away.
