Entered and built his own car for the 1930 race, but failed to qualify and was not heard of again. Much of his life remains a mystery but it is known that he joined the Missouri National Guard in 1930 and that he died in 1937 in a car accident, when his car overturned. He was a liquor salesman and at the time of his death, he was driving to a sale. He is buried at Saint Peter's Cemetery in Normandy, just outside St. Louis, Missouri. Fansin's father, also called Fred, ran a garage and automobile dealership so young Fred picked up the car bug from him. Fred's grandfather, who also called Fred, emigrated from Germany to live in Missouri. Fred's son, unsurprisingly also called Fred, was born a few months after his father's death.
