Former school teacher, killed in a race in Missouri. Saylor was a dirt track specialist, who started racing in 1932 at a dirt-track race at Frankfort, Indiana. When his career started to go well, Saylor quit his teaching job and took up racing full-time, enjoying a hugely successful 1937 season racing in dirt tracks in the Midwest. Suffered injuries in the 1941 Indianapolis 500 that put him out for a while, and part of the reason he raced at Cape Girardeau was to ease into a recovery in what should've been a staged race due to track conditions - but it went tragically wrong.
