Real name Mike Szalai. Raced a variety of machinery for about 5 years, but did not have a lot of success. Mike's parents, his father Vincent and his mother, Ethel, were Hungarian born and bred, having moved to the United States in 1902. Initially Mike worked as a labourer, before becoming a salesman in the coal industry and a worker in an automobile factory. Racing was something he only took up after World War Two properly, but he did race in a dirt oval race in 1939 at Springfield. His best result, by far, was sixth place in the dirt oval race at Trenton in 1949. For 32 years, he worked for Bendix, a manufacturing and engineering company which made automotive brake shoes and systems.
